Common defects to skirting board

· Timber exposed to high moisture content wet rod decay takes places.

· Timber can easily break whilst fitting .

· Can split easily.

· Bowing in the timer

· Knocks are missing

Risk assessment

· Cutting hand or fingers whilst cutting wood

· Breathing in dust wood particles whilst cutting the timber or wood

· Blindness when using nail gun

To avoid these risks we have to wear the correct PPE ,we should wear gloves to prevent cuts and we should also wear googles to prevent our eyes from timber particles that come from cuts. A dust mask is also required when using the nail gun because of the air it releases .We are working with the Health and Safety act 1974

Method statement

We first wear our PPE on then ,we asess the area then we remove the defected skirting board. Installed the skirting board by measuring the length required then when the part of skirting fit make a miter cut on the end of a new bit and cut the bit on the end off to fit to skirting shape. We then easily nail the skirting board to the wall using the nail gun and all is fitted well to wall strongly and no gaps behind then pack away (plus clearances).
