Common defects to patios

·         Ponding  is where slabs are much lower than the over one next to it giving it a sunken look.

·

·          Brocken slabs could cause trips and falls

sub base not dug out enough and weeds growing through joint

Limitations of patios

·        Longevity – it’s difficult to match the lifespan of stone, since certain types of natural stone patios can last for centuries. Stone in almost any form (natural stone or premade products like brick and concrete pavers) is impervious to the weather and remains unaltered and beautiful through varying temperatures, storms and direct sunlight.

·        Durability – stone can take heavy traffic, including the weight of furniture, outdoor kitchen equipment and foot traffic from crowds of friends and family.

·        Design Limitations – stone patios are only suitable for ground level applications. They must be installed onto a sand and gravel base, and do not allow you to make the most efficient use of a suburban yard.

Risk assessment

·         Cement getting in eyes

·         Trips

·         Falling objects

Wear the correct PPE to reduce the cement and other substances getting in eyes (goggles) then also for the falling objects wear boots because of dropping a slab on to your foot if not wearing boots it will break your foot , and to prevent trips clear soundings to make less of trips while moving materials then we will be working to the  (HSE) standard  and they health and safety act of 1974.

Method statement

Before we start on the patio we need to put our correct PPE on and keep safe after we shall start remove any damaged slabs and dispose them. We mixed up shape sand, cement and water to make a mix then identify were we need it and how much. Then we lay the mix on they floor of the area in dots we then put slabs on top and levelled then to the existing patio. After we then repointed joints to seal them up and made any finishing touches and plus clearance

  1. Task 007 Repairing patio slabs.

The group was given the task of solving the problem of pounding of patio Slabs. The group identified what was needed to do to repair this issue and the materials and tools required to carry out the task. The groups first attempt at laying the six slabs required left the slabs uneven with each other and no fall to allow water to flow off. Second attempt was a much better finish with slabs spot pug laid with pointed finish. The slabs are flush with each other and laid to a fall. Well done on the second attempt it came together.
