The common defects to underground drainage


  •       Tree Root Ingress In Drainage Systems is one of the most common causes of blockages to domestic systems, disturbed ground such as back filled drainage trenches make easy travelling for roots.
  • Blockage in pipe this will stop water flowing making it build up and making it hard for water to flow.
  •     Damage to underground pipes  will cause leaks or pipe moving out of place form the mane line to sewage.

The defects and limitations of underground drainage 
·        Bricks and mortar insurance policy.
·        Damage that results from Earth movement.
·        Drain defect that can be classed as accidental damage should be covered.

Risk assessment

·        Working in a confined area  
·        Cutting yourself on fresh cut pipe 
·        Edges can collapse on you (cave in) 

Support the edges where you are working to stop any chance of a collapse,
Use a file instead of your finger to prevent cutting any body parts open and try not to have to many people working in a confined area to avoid any accidents. We will be working to the working at the (HSE) standard  and they health and safety act of 1974. 

Method statement
We shall put on our correct PPE on before we start the installation of your underground drainage. Then we will get rid of soil and debris in the area that we need to work in. To put your drainage system in we started installing a bottle gullie then we attached the long radius bend and cut drain pipe to size to be able to install it properly in to they bottle gullie. lead to the main sewage pipes. Then we back fill the area up with soil and then concrete the area.

  1. Task 008 Underground drainage
    The task given to the group was to rearrange a manhole and connection to a soil stack vent pipe. The group work has manly been carried out by Lewis again. The others need to be more involved.
    The common defects you have listed are mainly for above ground drainage. Please also break down your cost so that I can see what you are allowing for.
